Italian Phrases

Note: If you are in Italy and ever find yourself in an emergency, these are the Italian emergency numbers you can dial:

• 112 – for Carabinieri (military police), see below
• 113 – for Polizia (police)
• 115 – for Vigili del fuoco or Pompieri (fire brigade)
• 118 – for calling an ambulance

Note that if you can’t remember a specific number, 112 is the European unified number for emergencies and will work in Italy as well.

Aiuto!	Help!
Mi serve aiuto!	I need help!
Al ladro!	Thief!
La smetta!	Stop it!
Al fuoco!	Fire!
Stia lontano da me! Stia lontana da me!	Get away from me! (m/f)
Mi lasci stare o chiamo la polizia!	Leave me alone or I’ll call the police!
Cos’è successo?	What happened?
C’è un estintore qui?	Is there a fire extinguisher here?
C’è un incendio!	There’s a fire!
So prestare i primi soccorsi!	I know first aid!
Sono un medico!	I’m a doctor!
Dov’è il commissariato di polizia?	Where is the police station?
Dove si trova la caserma dei carabinieri più vicina?	Where is the nearest (military) police station?
Ci sono dei feriti!	Some people are injured!
Ho avuto un incidente.	I had an accident with my car.
Favorisca patente e libretto.	Your driver’s license and registration certificate, please.
Il numero di targa è…	The registration number of the car is…
Vorrei sporgere denuncia.	I’d like to file a report.
Dove si trova il pronto soccorso?	Where is the ER?
Vorrei denunciare un furto.	I’d like to report a theft.
Mi hanno rubato il passaporto.	Someone stole my passport.
Mi hanno rubato la macchina.	Someone stole my car.
Mi hanno rubato il portafoglio.	Someone stole my wallet.
Ho perso la carta di credito.	I lost my credit card.
Mi hanno rubato la borsetta.	My purse was stolen.
Qualcuno chiami un medico!	Somebody call a doctor!
Qualcuno chiami la polizia!	Someone call the police!
Ho bisogno di un’ambulanza!	I need an ambulance!
Qualcuno chiami i pompieri!	Someone call the fire brigade!
È un’emergenza!	It is an emergency!
C’è stata una rapina!	There was a robbery!
Ci sono testimoni?	Are there any witnesses?
Mi sa dire dov’è il consolato americano?	Could you tell me where the American consulate is? (formal)
Mi sono perso. Mi può aiutare?	I am lost. Can you help me? (formal, m)
Posso fare una chiamata?	Can I make a phone call?
Non mi sento bene.	I don’t feel well.
