Plural of nouns ending in -a

Nouns ending in -a in Italian are almost always feminine and form their plural by removing -a and adding -e.

A noun is something you can touch (a flower, a chair) or an idea (freedom, rage).

Plural means “more than one”: some candies, three dogs, etc.

Sedia > Sedie
Matita > Matite
Finestra > Finestre

Examples

Ci sono quattro sedie in cucina.
There are four chairs in the kitchen.

Ho comprato tre matite.
I bought three pencils.

Le finestre sono aperte.
The windows are open.
